Encouraging kids to participate in daily physical activity in the classroom is just as important as eating healthily. One of the goals of CHSC is to provide schools and parents with ideas for healthy activities. Below is a list of various activities for kids to participate both in school and at home. Some require specific playground equipment or other materials, while others only need a little imagination.
Getting Healthy Together – Resources provided by Action for Healthy Kids describing four easy ways for families to improve health and well-being.
Energizing Brain Breaks – View some samples, or buy the book of quick and easy games that refocus the brain. They require only 1-2 minutes, and no extra materials. Great in the classroom to encourage kids to be active, and to help refocus them on the topic at hand.
Active and Healthy Schools Program – Link to various types of activity cards for both in the classroom and on the playground.
Skillastics – is a series of evidence-based, oversize board games that combine active, academic, social, emotional, and cooperative learning with the development of fitness and or sport skill development.
Try Tennis by MVP Health Care – a 5-week series held outdoors starting July 12th at the Albany Tennis Club. This program is open to all MVP members.
