Encouraging kids to participate in daily physical activity in the classroom is just as important as eating healthily. One of the goals of CHSC is to provide schools and parents with ideas for healthy activities. Below is a list of various activities for kids to participate both in school and at home. Some require specific playground equipment or other materials, while others only need a little imagination.

Energizing Brain Breaks – View some samples, or buy the book of quick and easy games that refocus the brain. They require only 1-2 minutes, and no extra materials. Great in the classroom to encourage kids to be active, and to help refocus them on the topic at hand.
Active and Healthy Schools Program – Link to various types of activity cards for both in the classroom and on the playground.
Skillastics – is a series of evidence-based, oversize board games that combine active, academic, social, emotional, and cooperative learning with the development of fitness and or sport skill development.

CDPHP Fitness Connect – A network of FREE fitness centers throughout the Capital District. Registration is free to anyone age 18 and older. You do not need to be a member of CDPHP to join.
Healthy Living Center – Located at 900 Central Ave. Albany, the Healthy Living Center offers a variety of free classes, programs and workshops led by certified instructors, registered dietitians, and pharmacists from the YMCA, CDPHP and Hannaford. Topics cover a wide range of areas including fitness, nutrition, senior health, medication safety, disease management, and more.
MVP Living Well Programs – Fall 2017 Schedule – MVP health plan members have access to a variety of community wellness and fitness classes year-round. Space is limited, registration is required.
